2016 heritage float awards
The 36th Annual Curwood Festival Heritage Parade which kicked off on Saturday, June 4 at 2:00 p.m., delighted the crowds as floats, marching bands, clowns, horses, antique fire vehicles, dance groups and a wide variety of revelers celebrating the theme of 'Together We Make a Difference' took over Main Street between Dewey and Chipman Streets.
Presiding over this year’s parade was Grand Marshals David Vaughn who has been active in the Owosso community for over 65 years in several local industries including Universal Electric, Woodards and Vaungarde, a company that he co-owned with his wife Patricia. David has been active in our community including time as a Boy Scout leader, YMCA Wiseman, member and Past President of the Owosso Rotary club, Board of directors of Shiawassee community mental health, Memorial Healthcare support board, Shiawassee Regional Chamber of Commerce board, and past chair of the Shaiwassee Valley Development Corporation. Sponsored in part by Patrick Wegman MD, Hardee’s/Red Burrito, Senator Rick Jones, Culligan, Nutrition Connection and Sound Wavz the parade’s judges selected the following groups from among over 70 entries participating in this year’s parade for special recognition. Parade Chairman, Jestin Rubelman, announced the winners following Saturday’s event including: Best Overall Unit: Campgrounds-R-Us Best Marching Unit: Corunna High School Band Best Community Unit: Shiawassee County Relay for Life Best Musical Unit: Jam Entertainment Best Use of Theme: Cornerstone Church of God Chairman's Award: Hooper (Detroit Pistons Basketball) |
