2018 RiverDaze River Race
The weather didn’t stop river lovers from coming out and enjoying a great time at the Curwood River Race! The rain clouds cleared just in time and long enough to have 50 racers take their watercrafts into the Shiawassee River on Saturday night! The rafts were amazing this year! The committee’s real hope was to get more excitement this year re-igniting the raft race category and boy, the racers did compete!
Kayak/Canoe Winners
First place kayak winner Rick Ensley was neck and neck with the first-place canoe winners, the team with Dan Hart. Both teams crossed at an amazing pace and were each awarded $250 for their big win! Congratulations, gentlemen!
Raft Winners
First place raft went to the crew from O-Town Café, Nathan Cox and his mate Tyler Summers. The boys went home with their check for $250 and O-Town was also able to win the Curwood Cup, a new addition to race awards. The Curwood Cup traveling trophy was awarded to the fastest business or organization raft. It will be exciting to see how many businesses/organizations will compete for it next year!
Bringing home the “best decorated watercraft” prize was the team of Troy Johnson. Roy’s team created a raft titled “SS Steven J” that was well-built and very neatly decorated! Great job Troy and crew!

Thank you to all that entered!
The rafts had to have been the neatest part! There were beautiful gals in tutus with a very well-constructed raft, a young man who singly paddled in a very well-constructed one-person float and even a raft that we heard had a few floating issues! Overall, the race was considered a huge success and many laughs were shared because of the event! Congratulations to all.
