Most people in our community are familiar with the Curwood Festival and the entertaining activities, however, fewer may realize how much money is given back to the community as a result of all of these events. Last year, grants were awarded for the Shiawassee County Fair Outdoor Picnic for All, Shiawassee Council on Aging Senior Mobile Arts Program, United Way Youth Service Project and Michigan Historical Marker for Birthplace of Curwood. In past years, Curwood Festival Directors donations have been made to Mitchell Amphitheater Mural Project, Curwood Place Mural Project and the YMCA Children’s Garden Castle Playhouse along with the Heritage Footbridge, picnic tables for area parks, annual donations to the maintenance of Curwood Castle, contributions to the Playscape at Bentley Park, and assisting with the bronze statue of James Oliver Curwood. As the Curwood Festival has rebounded from the challenging years during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, we are excited to announce that we are able to continue giving back to the community through the 2025 Curwood Grant opportunity.
