2017 River Daze Winners Announced...
The Curwood River Daze Race was a huge success this year! It was the perfect day for 41 racers to enter their boats into the Shiawassee River on Saturday night to have their shot at the $800 prize money! Racing to the finish lines, Gary Burk was able to take the 1st Place kayak spot in just under 33 minutes! Not far behind Burk was the family team of Richard and Dan Hart in their canoe. They were able to secure the 1st place canoe position and take home their share of the prize in approximately 36 minutes. 1st place raft and neatest decorated raft went to the foursome that included Abigail Elbing, Jon Howard, Courtney Crawford and Allen Webster. They were all smiles to find out they had won $400 in prize money!
The committee was so pleased at the support and encouragement that it received from the community! “It was our goal to bring back the excitement of the River Race, and we are so pleased to see this excitement coming back! Look for it next year! We'd like to see the banks full of spectators cheering on our racers!” Kris Poag, committee co-chair. With great sponsors and volunteers this year, the race was a success! It seemed many racers were smiling and some laughing as they tipped over the dam, but all racers completed the race! A huge thank you to: Chili Poppins, Korner Pub, SAY Computer, BB6, Slingerland Automotive Group, Brooks Innovative Graphics, Crest Marine, Harris Electric and WeatherVane Roofing for helping put on such a great event! |
